Racial Antisemitism and the Coining of 'Antisemitismus'
The claim
“Jews constitute a biologically distinct, inferior, and dangerous 'Semitic' race whose harmful traits are innate and cannot be changed by conversion or assimilation.”
Demonstrably invented: a forged document, a fictitious event, an accusation refuted by direct evidence.
Historical context
In 1879 the German journalist Wilhelm Marr popularized the term 'Antisemitismus' in his pamphlet 'The Victory of Jewry over Germandom' and founded the Antisemiten-Liga, deliberately replacing religious 'Judenhass' with a pseudo-scientific, racial vocabulary. Drawing on social Darwinism, racial eugenics, and völkisch nationalism, ideologues such as Marr, Eugen Dühring, and Houston Stewart Chamberlain recast centuries-old Christian Jew-hatred as immutable biology: a baptized Jew remained a racial enemy. Political antisemitic parties in Germany and Austria (Stoecker, Schönerer, Lueger) made the doctrine electorally respectable. This racial framing was the precondition for Nazi ideology and the Nuremberg Laws of 1935, which defined Jews by ancestry rather than belief, and ultimately for a genocide aimed at biological annihilation.
The debunking
Racial antisemitism rests on race science that has been comprehensively repudiated. Modern genetics and anthropology reject the existence of discrete human races with fixed moral or intellectual traits; 'Semitic' is a language family (Hebrew, Arabic, Amharic), not a biological category, so a 'Semitic race' is a category error from the outset. The UNESCO statements on race (1950–1967) and decades of population genetics since have shown that human genetic variation is continuous and overwhelmingly shared across populations, and that traits like greed, disloyalty, or 'parasitism' are not heritable group characteristics but projected stereotypes. Historians (USHMM; Robert Wistrich) document that racial antisemitism did not arise from any empirical observation of Jews but from the secularization of older theological hatred: when emancipation and assimilation dissolved the religious boundary, antisemites invented a biological one precisely because it could never be escaped. The claimed 'racial defects' contradicted one another—Jews were simultaneously cast as capitalists and revolutionaries, weaklings and world-dominators—revealing ideology, not science. The doctrine's measurable output was not knowledge but persecution: boycotts, the Nuremberg Laws, and the Holocaust, after which its pseudo-scientific apparatus was dismantled in scholarly and legal forums including the Nuremberg trials.
Descends from
Centuries of theological Jew-hatred were secularized: the 'Christ-killer' became the 'racial enemy' once emancipation made religious conversion irrelevant as an exit.
The old claim that Jews can never truly belong was hardened into pseudo-biology: assimilation becomes impossible by definition because Jewishness is recast as blood.

Race doctrine made dehumanization 'scientific': if Jewishness is biology, propaganda could depict it as infection and infestation rather than belief.
Its disqualification of Jews by bloodline applies the biological-purity logic of nineteenth–twentieth-century racial antisemitism, merely reversing the valence: Jews condemned not for Semitic blood but for allegedly lacking it.
