'4,000 Jews Stayed Home': 9/11 Antisemitic Conspiracy Theories
“4,000 Jews were forewarned to skip work at the World Trade Center on 9/11, 'dancing Israelis' proved foreknowledge, and Israel's Mossad carried out the attacks.”
Within days of September 11, 2001, Hezbollah's Al-Manar television broadcast the invented claim that 4,000 Israelis (quickly mutated to 'Jews') failed to report to work at the World Trade Center, implying Israeli foreknowledge. The figure was twisted from an Israeli government estimate of roughly 4,000 Israelis believed to be in the New York area generally. Companion myths — five Israelis seen filming the attacks ('dancing Israelis') as proof of Mossad involvement, or that Larry Silverstein and Jewish-owned firms profited — spread across the Middle East, far-right and 9/11 'truther' networks, and persist in social-media and state propaganda. The libel fueled antisemitic violence and harassment worldwide during the 2000s and remains a staple of both jihadist and white-supremacist discourse, resurging after every Middle East crisis.
'Chosen People' Misread as Jewish Supremacism
“Judaism's idea of a 'chosen people' proves that Jews regard themselves as an innately superior race, divinely entitled to dominate non-Jews or to hold them in contempt.”
The charge that Jews think themselves superior is among the oldest anti-Jewish accusations, predating Christianity. Greco-Roman writers attacked Jewish 'separateness': the Egyptian priest Manetho (3rd c. BCE) and the Alexandrian polemicist Apion claimed Jews held the rest of humanity in contempt, and Tacitus (Histories 5.5, c. 100 CE) wrote that Jews kept a stubborn loyalty among themselves but felt 'hostile odium' toward all other peoples. Christian and later polemic fused this with the reading that the Talmud commands contempt for gentiles. The trope's most consequential modern career was Soviet: Trofim Kichko's Judaism Without Embellishment (Ukrainian Academy of Sciences, 1963) argued that Judaism, through its doctrine of the chosen people, was an inherently racist religion, and the post-1967 'Zionology' industry generalized this into the thesis that Zionism is a racism rooted in Jewish 'chosen-race' supremacism. That formula was carried into the UN, where the Soviet-Arab bloc's Resolution 3379 (1975) branded Zionism 'a form of racism' — the American Jewish Committee notes the campaign argued the 'chosen people' idea promoted racial superiority — and into the parallel charge that Israel is an apartheid state. The chosen-people doctrine was thus recast as the theological engine of an allegedly supremacist project.
'Jewish Space Lasers': Rothschild Wildfire and Weather Conspiracies
“California's deadly 2018 Camp Fire was started by space-based lasers tied to 'Rothschild Inc.' — the meme-era conspiracy attributing engineered disasters to Jewish financiers.”
In a November 17, 2018 Facebook post, future congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene speculated that the Camp Fire — which killed 85 people and destroyed Paradise, California — was ignited by 'lasers or blue beams of light' from space solar generators, naming Rothschild Inc. (via a PG&E board member who was its vice-chairman) among the beneficiaries, alongside claims the fire cleared land for a rail project. Unearthed by Media Matters in January 2021, the post was instantly recognized as recycling Rothschild demonology and became shorthand — 'Jewish space lasers' — for meme-era antisemitism. Greene, by then an elected QAnon-sympathetic member of Congress, was stripped of committee assignments in February 2021. The trope persists, resurfacing after the 2023 Maui and 2025 Los Angeles fires as 'directed energy weapon' claims with Rothschild and Soros variants.
'The Lobby' as Secret Controller of Western Foreign Policy
“A unified, covertly coordinated Jewish lobby controls US and Western foreign policy against the national interest of those countries.”
John Mearsheimer and Stephen Walt's 2006 London Review of Books essay and 2007 book argued that 'the Israel lobby' had skewed US foreign policy and was a principal cause of the Iraq War. The authors explicitly denied alleging a conspiracy, describing open interest-group politics. But scholarly critics — the ADL, Itamar Rabinovich, Eliot Cohen, Alan Dershowitz and others — found the work monocausal and selectively argued, and warned that its image of a near-omnipotent 'Lobby' subverting the national interest echoed older antisemitic tropes. In popular circulation the thesis hardened into precisely the conspiracist form the authors disclaimed: 'the Lobby' or 'Zionist lobby' as a unified, hidden Jewish bloc that buys politicians and manufactures wars.
Blood Libel (Ritual Murder Accusation)
“Jews murder Christian children to use their blood in religious rituals, especially Passover matzah.”
The ritual murder accusation was invented in Norwich, England, in 1144, when the monk Thomas of Monmouth claimed Jews had crucified a boy named William in mockery of Christ. The fabrication spread to Gloucester (1168), Blois (1171, where about 30 Jews were burned), Fulda (1235), and across Europe. The 1475 case of Simon of Trent—after which the town's Jews were tortured into confessions and executed, and the child venerated as a martyr—was amplified by the new printing press and became the libel's most influential template. Hundreds of accusations followed into the modern era, including Damascus (1840), Tiszaeszlár (1882), and the Beilis trial in Kyiv (1913), each accompanied by trials, torture, executions, or pogroms.
COVID-19 Antisemitic Conspiracy Theories
“Jews, Israel, or 'globalists' created, spread, or profited from COVID-19 and used vaccines and the 'Great Reset' to enslave humanity.”
From early 2020, watchdogs documented a global wave of antisemitic pandemic conspiracies: COVID-19 as an Israeli or Jewish bioweapon; Jews as super-spreaders ('Jew Flu,' 'Holocough' — extremists' stated hope of infecting Jews); Soros and Rothschild ownership of labs and vaccine patents; and antisemitic readings of the World Economic Forum's 'Great Reset,' in which Jewish financiers allegedly engineered the crisis to impose world government. The UK's Community Security Trust, ADL, and the UK Commission for Countering Extremism documented the narratives' spread across far-right, Islamist, and anti-vax networks. Consequences included record antisemitic-incident levels in 2020–21, 'Jude' yellow-star imagery at lockdown protests, harassment of visibly Orthodox Jews blamed as spreaders, and synagogue-attack plots by adherents of 'Holocough' rhetoric.
Deicide Charge ("Christ-Killers")
“Jews, collectively and for all generations, are guilty of killing Jesus Christ.”
The charge that 'the Jews' murdered Jesus emerged from early Christian polemic as the church separated from Judaism, hardening in patristic writings such as Melito of Sardis' 2nd-century accusation of deicide and John Chrysostom's 4th-century sermons. Gospel passion narratives, written decades after the crucifixion amid rivalry with synagogue communities, shifted blame from the Roman governor Pontius Pilate onto Jewish crowds ('His blood be on us and on our children,' Matt. 27:25). For centuries the charge was invoked in Holy Week violence, Crusade-era massacres (1096 Rhineland), forced sermons, ghettoization, and expulsions, and it became the theological taproot from which later libels—ritual murder, host desecration, well poisoning—grew. It remained official teaching in much of Christendom until the Second Vatican Council repudiated it in 1965.
Eternal Foreigner / Wandering Jew
“Jews are cursed, rootless aliens condemned to wander the earth, incapable of ever truly belonging to any nation.”
Medieval theology read the Jewish diaspora as divine punishment for the deicide: Augustine's 'witness people' doctrine held Jews must survive but in subjection and dispersion. This crystallized in the legend of the Wandering Jew—a Jerusalem cobbler who taunted Christ on the road to Calvary and was condemned to roam until the Second Coming. Versions circulated from the 13th century (Roger of Wendover's chronicle, 1228), but the canonical form is a 1602 German pamphlet naming the figure 'Ahasuerus'; the legend became known in German as Der ewige Jude—'the Eternal Jew'—the phrase the Nazis would later take for their 1940 film. The trope both rationalized and was reinforced by serial expulsions—England 1290, France 1306 and 1394, Spain 1492, Portugal 1497, and countless German towns—which manufactured the very homelessness the myth then attributed to divine curse.
Garaudy's 'Founding Myths of Israeli Policy' (1996)
“Israel's legitimacy rests on fabricated 'founding myths' — above all the 'myth of the six million' — exploited to justify its policy toward the Palestinians.”
Roger Garaudy, a former French Communist Party philosopher who had converted to Islam, published 'Les Mythes fondateurs de la politique israélienne' in 1995–96, initially through La Vieille Taupe — the far-left negationist imprint of Pierre Guillaume that also published Robert Faurisson — completing the documented chain Bardèche → Rassinier → Faurisson/La Vieille Taupe → Garaudy (Igounet). The book repackaged Holocaust denial ('the myth of the six million') as antizionism, presenting the genocide as a political instrument of Zionism. French courts convicted Garaudy in 1998 for contesting crimes against humanity, racial defamation, and incitement to hatred. The affair made him a celebrity in parts of the Arab-Islamic world, where the denial-antizionism fusion the book embodied circulated widely.
George Soros as the Global Puppet-Master
“Hungarian-American Jewish financier George Soros is a hidden puppet-master who funds migration waves, protests, and social chaos to subvert nations.”
Conspiracy theories cast Soros — a Holocaust survivor and philanthropist — as the secret financier of migrant caravans, antifa, Black Lives Matter protests, and 'globalist' subversion. The narrative recycles the Rothschild myth and the Protocols' structure: one rich Jew secretly directing world events. Hungary's Fidesz government ran a state-funded campaign in 2017–18 ('Don't let Soros have the last laugh' billboards, the 'Stop Soros' laws), which Hungarian Jewish organizations and Human Rights Watch condemned as antisemitic; billboards were defaced with 'stinking Jew' graffiti. In October 2018 the trope had violent consequences: the Pittsburgh synagogue shooter and the MAGA-bomber Cesar Sayoc (who mailed Soros a pipe bomb) both embraced Soros-as-puppet-master claims about the migrant caravan.
Holocaust Denial (Negationism)
“The Nazi genocide of the Jews never happened: the gas chambers are a fabrication and the 'six million' a myth invented by Jews for political and financial gain.”
The founding text is Maurice Bardèche's 'Nuremberg ou la Terre promise' (Les Sept Couleurs, October 1948, 25,000 copies): the postwar record of the camps is a 'falsification de l'histoire', the museum gas chambers are reconstructions 'comme au musée Grévin', and deportation was merely resettlement to a 'réserve juive' in the East. Bardèche was convicted in 1952 for apology of war crimes and the book was banned. His protégé Paul Rassinier carried the doctrine forward; Robert Faurisson gave it pseudo-academic form from the late 1970s, and the Institute for Historical Review (1978) internationalized it. In December 1980 Faurisson declared on Europe 1 that the 'historical lie' of the gas chambers benefits 'the State of Israel and international Zionism' and that its victims are 'the German people… and the entire Palestinian people' — explicitly wiring denial into antizionism.
Holocaust Inversion: Jews as 'the New Nazis'
“Israelis and Jews are the new Nazis, doing to the Palestinians what Nazi Germany did to the Jews.”
Lesley Klaff defines Holocaust inversion as a double inversion: of reality (Israelis cast as Nazis, Palestinians as the new Jews) and of morality (the Holocaust turned into an indictment of 'the Jews' for failing to learn its lesson). Its modern industrial production was Soviet: after 1967, Zionology generated hundreds of publications equating Zionism with Nazism — 96 such equations in 1970 alone, culminating in the KGB-supervised Anti-Zionist Committee's 1985 brochure 'Criminal Alliance of Zionism and Nazism' (Tabarovsky). The French far right ran a parallel, Soviet-derived line: Lebourg traces Bardèche's journal Défense de l'Occident recycling the Soviet Zionism–Nazism theme, and Duprat's July 1967 special issue accusing the Jews of a 'final solution' against the Arabs. Today it appears as swastika-Star of David fusions, 'Zionazi' rhetoric, and political statements like UK MP David Ward's 2013 remarks. The IHRA working definition lists Nazi comparisons of Israeli policy among its examples of contemporary antisemitism.
Host Desecration Accusation
“Jews steal consecrated communion wafers in order to torture them, stab them, and make Christ bleed anew.”
After the Fourth Lateran Council (1215) defined transubstantiation—the doctrine that the consecrated host is Christ's actual body—a new accusation appeared: that Jews acquired hosts to pierce, boil, or stab them, whereupon the wafer miraculously bled. The first major case at Belitz near Berlin (1243) ended with Jews burned alive. The 1290 Paris affair produced a commemorative chapel; the 1298 Röttingen accusation launched the Rintfleisch massacres, which annihilated some 146 Jewish communities across Franconia and the surrounding regions, killing thousands; the Armleder bands (1336–1338) and the Brussels affair (1370, which extinguished Brabant Jewry) followed. Accusations at Sternberg (1492) and Berlin (1510) led to mass burnings and expulsions. 'Miraculous bleeding hosts' became pilgrimage sites, embedding the libel in popular devotion.
Judensau and Dehumanizing Imagery
“Jews are unclean, sub-human creatures, fittingly depicted in obscene intimacy with pigs—the animal their own law declares impure.”
The Judensau ('Jews' sow') is a degrading sculptural and print motif that appeared in German-speaking lands from the 13th century, carved onto cathedrals, churches, bridges, and town gates—roughly thirty examples survive, including at Wittenberg (c. 1290), where Martin Luther later preached and whose relief he praised in his 1543 anti-Jewish writings. The images show Jews suckling from a sow and a rabbi inspecting its hindquarters, deliberately coupling Jews with the animal Jewish law deems impure. Alongside other visual codes—the horned Jew, the hooked nose, Ecclesia and blindfolded Synagoga—the motif trained generations of Christians to perceive Jews as bestial and obscene, normalizing the violence of expulsions and massacres without needing any specific accusation.
Nazi Dehumanization Propaganda: Der Stürmer, 'Der ewige Jude,' and Vermin Imagery
“Jews are not fully human but parasites, bacilli, and vermin infesting the body of the nation, which must be 'cleansed' of them.”
Nazi propaganda systematically recast Jews as subhuman organisms. Julius Streicher's Der Stürmer (founded 1923, circulation near 500,000 by 1935) combined pornographic caricature with ritual-murder revivals and the slogan 'Die Juden sind unser Unglück.' Goebbels' propaganda apparatus saturated film, radio, schoolbooks (Der Giftpilz), and exhibitions. Fritz Hippler's pseudo-documentary 'Der ewige Jude' (1940) intercut footage of ghetto Jews with swarming rats 'carrying contagion,' and closed with Hitler's January 1939 Reichstag 'prophecy' of the annihilation of the Jewish race in Europe. Herf shows this rhetoric framed the war itself as self-defense against the Jewish enemy. The campaign's function was performative: by making Jews vermin, it made extermination 'pest control.' Nuremberg recognized this—Streicher was hanged in 1946 for incitement as a crime against humanity.
QAnon: Blood Libel and the Protocols, Rebranded
“A satanic global elite kidnaps children to harvest 'adrenochrome' from their blood — a digital-age fusion of the medieval blood libel with the Protocols' world-cabal structure.”
Emerging from 4chan in October 2017, QAnon holds that a 'cabal' of elites — with George Soros and the Rothschilds in recurring starring roles — traffics children and ritually extracts adrenochrome from their blood for life extension. Scholars and watchdogs identify this as a modernized blood libel (Jews murdering Christian children for their blood) wrapped in the Protocols' architecture of a secret world government. Even when 'Jewish' goes unstated, QAnon's villains, banker obsessions, and media-control claims track classic antisemitic tropes, and many influencers make the link explicit. Consequences include the armed 'Pizzagate' raid on Comet Ping Pong (2016), QAnon flags and shirts at the January 6, 2021 Capitol attack, kidnappings and murders by adherents, and harassment of Jewish figures.
Racial Antisemitism and the Coining of 'Antisemitismus'
“Jews constitute a biologically distinct, inferior, and dangerous 'Semitic' race whose harmful traits are innate and cannot be changed by conversion or assimilation.”
In 1879 the German journalist Wilhelm Marr popularized the term 'Antisemitismus' in his pamphlet 'The Victory of Jewry over Germandom' and founded the Antisemiten-Liga, deliberately replacing religious 'Judenhass' with a pseudo-scientific, racial vocabulary. Drawing on social Darwinism, racial eugenics, and völkisch nationalism, ideologues such as Marr, Eugen Dühring, and Houston Stewart Chamberlain recast centuries-old Christian Jew-hatred as immutable biology: a baptized Jew remained a racial enemy. Political antisemitic parties in Germany and Austria (Stoecker, Schönerer, Lueger) made the doctrine electorally respectable. This racial framing was the precondition for Nazi ideology and the Nuremberg Laws of 1935, which defined Jews by ancestry rather than belief, and ultimately for a genocide aimed at biological annihilation.
Soviet 'Zionology': The Anti-Zionist Propaganda Industry
“'Zionism' is a global racist, fascist conspiracy controlling Western finance, media, and governments — a claim manufactured by a Soviet state academic-propaganda industry that recycled the Protocols of the Elders of Zion with 'Zionist' substituted for 'Jew'.”
After Trofim Kichko's *Judaism Without Embellishment* (Ukrainian Academy of Sciences, 1963) — illustrated with caricatures indistinguishable from Nazi propaganda — and especially after the Six-Day War of 1967, the USSR built an entire pseudo-academic discipline ('Zionology') dedicated to demonizing Zionism. Yuri Ivanov's *Beware: Zionism!* (1969), written by a KGB-connected Central Committee staffer, sold hundreds of thousands of copies in sixteen languages; authors like Valery Emelyanov, Yevgeny Yevseyev, Lev Korneyev, and Vladimir Begun followed. Institutes under figures such as Yevgeny Primakov produced 'scholarship'; the KGB- and Central Committee-created Anti-Zionist Committee of the Soviet Public (1983), chaired by Gen. David Dragunsky, fronted the campaign with Jewish faces. Izabella Tabarovsky's central finding: this corpus textually recycled the Protocols, retaining its conspiracy architecture while swapping the vocabulary.
Stalin's Anti-Cosmopolitan Campaign
“Soviet Jews were 'rootless cosmopolitans' — nationless, disloyal agents of Western imperialism and 'bourgeois nationalism' who had to be purged from Soviet cultural, scientific, and political life.”
Beginning in late 1948, Stalin's regime launched a press and purge campaign against 'rootless cosmopolitans' — a transparent euphemism for Jews. It opened with the staged murder of Solomon Mikhoels, the great Yiddish actor and chairman of the Jewish Anti-Fascist Committee (JAC), killed by the MGB in January 1948 in a faked truck accident. The JAC, created during WWII to rally world Jewry behind the Soviet war effort, was dissolved as a 'center of anti-Soviet propaganda'; its leading figures were arrested, tortured, and thirteen were executed on 12 August 1952 (the 'Night of the Murdered Poets'). Yiddish culture was destroyed, Jewish critics and intellectuals were unmasked by their birth names in the press, and Jews were driven from professions — the template for treating Jewishness itself as foreign allegiance.
Talmud Libel (Trial and Burning of the Talmud)
“The Talmud is a blasphemous, anti-Christian book that insults Jesus and Mary and commands Jews to deceive and harm Christians.”
In 1236 the apostate Nicholas Donin laid before Pope Gregory IX 35 charges that the Talmud contained blasphemies against Jesus and Mary and hostility toward Christians; in 1239 Gregory ordered the book seized across Europe, and only France complied. At the Disputation of Paris (June 1240)—a trial, not a debate—Rabbi Yechiel of Paris and three colleagues were forced to defend the Talmud before the court of Louis IX under rules forbidding any challenge to Christian doctrine. The Talmud was condemned, and in June 1242 some twenty-four cartloads of manuscripts—thousands of volumes, in an age before printing—were burned in the Place de Grève. Condemnations were renewed in 1244 and 1248, and Talmud burnings recurred for centuries, notably in Italy in 1553, alongside ongoing censorship.
The 'Apartheid State' Accusation
“Israel is in essence identical to white-supremacist South Africa — an apartheid state whose very existence, not specific policies, is the crime.”
The Israel–apartheid equation was developed as a Soviet propaganda line: Moscow pressed the analogy at the UN from 1965, produced literature such as 'Zionism and Apartheid,' and secured its codification in UN Resolution 3379 (1975), with the campaign documented by Tabarovsky. It was revived at the 2001 Durban conference as a strategy of delegitimization. In the 2020s the question entered a different register: B'Tselem (2021), Human Rights Watch ('A Threshold Crossed,' 2021) and Amnesty International (2022) published legal analyses arguing that Israeli practices meet the treaty definition of apartheid as a crime against humanity — reports that are seriously contested but belong to genuine legal and scholarly debate, unlike the older propaganda equation.
The 'Cultural Marxism' Conspiracy Theory
“The Frankfurt School — a group of largely Jewish émigré intellectuals — executed a deliberate plot to destroy Western civilization by engineering feminism, multiculturalism, and 'political correctness.'”
The theory holds that Theodor Adorno, Max Horkheimer, Herbert Marcuse and colleagues, after fleeing Nazi Germany for Columbia University, designed 'Cultural Marxism' to subvert Christianity, family, and white identity. Crystallized in Michael Minnicino's 1992 LaRouche-movement essay and popularized by William S. Lind and Pat Buchanan, it migrated from paleoconservative circles to the online far right and mainstream politics. Anders Breivik's 2011 manifesto, justifying his murder of 77 people in Norway, was structured around destroying 'Cultural Marxism'; the trope also appears in Christchurch-adjacent and Buffalo-adjacent manifesto culture and in mainstream punditry. Its genealogy runs directly from the Nazi propaganda term 'Kulturbolschewismus' (cultural Bolshevism), used to smear Jewish and modernist artists as agents of decay.
The 'Jews Control Banking' Myth and the Rothschild Legend
“Jewish bankers—epitomized by the Rothschild family—secretly control the world's money supply, manipulate markets and wars, and enrich themselves from nations' misfortunes.”
Modern financial conspiracism crystallized around the Rothschilds, the most visible Jewish banking dynasty of the nineteenth century. In 1846 Georges Dairnvaell, writing as 'Satan,' published a pamphlet claiming Nathan Rothschild watched the Battle of Waterloo, raced the news to London, and made a fortune by deceiving the stock exchange. The legend spread through French and German antisemitic literature, was absorbed into the Protocols' image of Jewish gold ruling the world, and was mass-marketed in America by Henry Ford's Dearborn Independent (1920–1927), whose articles, collected as 'The International Jew,' reached circulation of about 900,000 and were admired by Hitler. The trope fueled Nazi propaganda films like 'Die Rothschilds' (1940) and persists in memes about the Federal Reserve, 'globalists,' and Soros.
The 'Jews Control the Media' Myth
“Jews secretly own and coordinate the press, publishing, and Hollywood in order to manipulate public opinion in their collective interest.”
Nineteenth-century antisemites in Germany, Austria, and France attacked the 'Judenpresse,' alleging that Jewish journalists corrupted national opinion. The Protocols canonized the idea—its twelfth protocol describes seizing control of the press—and Henry Ford's Dearborn Independent ran serials on alleged Jewish control of the press, theater, and movies in the 1920s. In 1941 Charles Lindbergh told an America First rally in Des Moines that Jewish 'ownership and influence in our motion pictures, our press, our radio and our government' was pushing America into war. Nazi propaganda made the 'Jewish press lie' (Lügenpresse) a fixture. The trope survives in claims about 'Zionist-controlled media' and surged measurably online after celebrity amplifications in the 2020s, correlating with harassment of Jewish journalists.
The 'Pinkwashing' Accusation
“Israel's LGBT rights record is nothing but a cynical propaganda operation engineered to whitewash its oppression of Palestinians.”
Sarah Schulman's November 2011 New York Times op-ed mainstreamed 'pinkwashing': the claim that Israel deploys 'queer people's hard-won gains' as a deliberate rebranding strategy to conceal human rights violations. A policy-critique version of this — analyzing Israel's real 'Brand Israel' marketing campaigns — is ordinary media criticism. The conspiracist version converts every genuine Israeli civil-rights achievement into evidence of deception: Tel Aviv Pride, anti-discrimination law, and LGBT military service are read not as facts about Israeli society but as moves in a plot. In practice the accusation has been used to exclude Jewish and Israeli LGBT groups from queer spaces (the A Wider Bridge 'Creating Change' disruption in 2016, the Chicago Dyke March's 2017 expulsion of marchers with Jewish Pride flags).
The Doctors' Plot
“A group of predominantly Jewish Kremlin physicians, directed by the 'Joint' (American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee) and Western intelligence, was deliberately poisoning and medically murdering Soviet leaders.”
On 13 January 1953, TASS and Pravda announced the 'unmasking' of a terrorist group of 'doctor-wreckers' — most identifiably Jewish — accused of murdering Politburo members Zhdanov and Shcherbakov through sabotaged treatment and of plotting against the military leadership on orders from the Joint and Anglo-American intelligence. The announcement triggered nationwide hysteria, dismissals of Jewish physicians, and pervasive fear of mass deportations of Soviet Jews. The accused were tortured to extract confessions linking them to the already-destroyed Jewish Anti-Fascist Committee. The case was the climax of Stalin's late antisemitic campaigns and collapsed only because Stalin died on 5 March 1953, before the planned show trial could be staged.
The Dual-Loyalty Accusation and the Dreyfus Affair
“Jews cannot be loyal citizens of the nations they live in because their true allegiance is to other Jews, a hidden Jewish agenda, or a foreign power.”
The dual-loyalty charge holds that Jewish citizenship is always provisional and treason always latent. Its paradigmatic case is the Dreyfus Affair: in 1894 Captain Alfred Dreyfus, the only Jewish officer on the French General Staff, was convicted of spying for Germany on fabricated evidence and deported to Devil's Island. Evidence soon pointed to Major Ferdinand Walsin-Esterhazy, yet the army acquitted Esterhazy in minutes and forged new documents against Dreyfus, while the antisemitic press (Drumont's La Libre Parole) whipped up riots. Émile Zola's 'J'Accuse…!' (1898) split France into Dreyfusards and anti-Dreyfusards. Dreyfus was pardoned in 1899 and fully exonerated in 1906. Watching the Paris mobs, Theodor Herzl concluded assimilation could not protect Jews—a direct spur to political Zionism.
The Gaza Genocide Charge (post-October 2023)
“Israel's military campaign in Gaza after October 7, 2023 constitutes a deliberate genocide — an intentional state campaign to destroy the Palestinian people as such.”
The charge appeared almost immediately after October 7: Raz Segal's 'A Textbook Case of Genocide' (Jewish Currents, Oct 13, 2023) and an 800-signatory scholars' warning of 'potential genocide' (Oct 15) preceded Israel's Oct 27 ground invasion; UN official Craig Mokhiber's 'textbook case of genocide' resignation letter followed Oct 28. South Africa filed at the ICJ on Dec 29, 2023; the court issued provisional-measures orders on Jan 26, Mar 28, and May 24, 2024. Amnesty International concluded genocide on Dec 5, 2024; the International Association of Genocide Scholars passed a genocide resolution Sept 1, 2025 (86% in favor, on a low member turnout that critics flagged); the UN Commission of Inquiry found genocide Sept 16, 2025. A counter-literature ran in parallel: John Spencer's urban-warfare analyses (2024–25), the Henry Jackson Society's casualty-data critique (Dec 2024), Washington Institute analyses of Gaza Health Ministry data, and Goda's history of the charge's pre-2023 lineage. A ceasefire began Oct 10, 2025; the ICJ merits case runs to the end of the decade.
The Great Replacement and Its Antisemitic Core
“White populations are being deliberately 'replaced' by non-white immigrants, with the dominant white-supremacist variant naming Jews as the orchestrators of that replacement.”
French writer Renaud Camus coined 'le grand remplacement' (2011) to describe alleged demographic substitution in Europe. American and international white supremacists hardened it into an antisemitic conspiracy: Jews deliberately import non-white migrants to destroy the white race. At Charlottesville in August 2017 marchers chanted 'Jews will not replace us.' In October 2018 Robert Bowers murdered 11 worshippers at Pittsburgh's Tree of Life synagogue after posting that HIAS, the Jewish refugee agency, 'likes to bring invaders in that kill our people.' Replacement rhetoric saturated the manifestos of the Christchurch shooter (51 killed, 2019), the El Paso shooter (23 killed, 2019), and the Buffalo shooter (10 killed, 2022), whose document was explicitly antisemitic.
The Judeo-Bolshevism Myth
“Communism is a Jewish invention and instrument, and Bolshevik revolution is the Jewish world conspiracy in action.”
Born amid the Russian Revolution and civil war, the myth fused the visibility of some Jewish-born revolutionaries (Trotsky, Zinoviev) with the older conspiracy narrative: Bolshevism was 'really' Jewish. White armies massacred tens of thousands of Jews in Ukraine in 1918–1921 under this banner; émigrés carried the Protocols and the myth westward, where it shaped interwar politics from Hungary to Britain. Paul Hanebrink's 'A Specter Haunting Europe' (2018) shows how the 'Judeo-Bolshevik' became a pan-European panic figure. For the Nazis it was core doctrine: the 1941 invasion of the USSR was framed as a war of annihilation against 'Jewish Bolshevism,' the Commissar Order and Einsatzgruppen massacres (Babi Yar) were justified by it, and Jeffrey Herf shows it anchored wartime propaganda for the Final Solution.
The Khazar Myth: Ashkenazi Jews as 'Fake Jews'
“Ashkenazi Jews descend from medieval Khazar converts, are therefore 'fake Jews' with no Levantine ancestry, and have no peoplehood connection to the land of Israel.”
A medieval legend held that the elite of the Khazar khaganate converted to Judaism around the ninth century. Arthur Koestler's 'The Thirteenth Tribe' (1976) popularized the idea that Ashkenazi Jewry descends from Khazars, and anti-Zionist polemic seized on it: if Ashkenazi Jews are 'really' Turkic converts, Zionism is fraud and Jews have no historical claim to the Levant. The claim circulates across otherwise opposed milieus — antizionist polemic, white supremacism, Nation of Islam material — and received a brief pseudo-scientific boost from a 2013 paper by Eran Elhaik. Both the historical conversion narrative and the genetic-descent claim have since been systematically examined and rejected by mainstream historiography and population genetics.
The Livingstone Formulation
“Jews who raise concerns about antisemitism do so dishonestly and in coordinated bad faith, 'weaponizing antisemitism' to silence criticism of Israel.”
Sociologist David Hirsh coined the term after London mayor Ken Livingstone, accused of antisemitic abuse toward a Jewish reporter in 2005, responded that the charge was an attempt to silence criticism of Israel. The Formulation is a rhetorical move with two parts: refusal to engage the content of an antisemitism concern, and a counter-accusation that the person raising it is acting in bad faith as part of a campaign to delegitimize criticism of Israel. Hirsh documents its routinization in left discourse, notably during the UK Labour antisemitism controversy. It has Soviet precedents: official anti-Zionism dismissed accusations of antisemitism as Zionist slander. Its effect is to make antisemitism structurally uncontestable — the complaint itself becomes the offense.
The Maximalist 'Settler-Colonialism' Frame
“Jews are foreign European colonizers with no indigenous connection, history, or peoplehood tie to the land, so Israel is a purely colonial implant that must be dismantled.”
Settler-colonial studies is a genuine academic field, and scholars legitimately debate whether and how its analytical tools apply to aspects of Israeli history, especially West Bank settlement. The maximalist frame goes further: it denies that Jews are a people with any indigenous connection to the land, casting them solely as white European interlopers. Soviet propaganda pioneered this framing after 1967, packaging Zionism as imperialism, colonialism and racism for Third World and Western audiences (Tabarovsky), and it was codified internationally in UN Resolution 3379 (1975). After 7 October 2023 the frame was invoked to celebrate attacks on civilians as 'decolonization,' and anthropologist Adam Louis-Klein documents how it functions to recast Jewish peoplehood itself as illegitimate.
The Myth of the Jewish World Conspiracy
“A hidden, coordinated Jewish leadership has been executing a centuries-long secret plan to subvert Christian civilization and rule the entire world.”
The master narrative of modern antisemitism emerged from counter-revolutionary demonology. Abbé Augustin Barruel's 'Mémoires' (1797) blamed the French Revolution on a plot of Philosophes, Freemasons, and Illuminati; an 1806 letter from 'J.B. Simonini' (possibly a police fabrication) urged him to place Jews at the plot's center. Through the nineteenth century the fantasy grew: Hermann Goedsche's novel 'Biarritz' (1868) imagined Jewish elders meeting at midnight in Prague's cemetery, a scene soon excerpted as the 'Rabbi's Speech' and circulated as fact. The Protocols (1903) gave the myth its canonical text. Norman Cohn showed how this narrative—Jews behind capitalism, revolution, war, and the press at once—functioned as the 'warrant for genocide' that made the Holocaust thinkable, and it remains the deep grammar of conspiracism today.
The Organ-Harvesting Libel (Aftonbladet 2009 and Variants)
“The Israeli army deliberately kills Palestinians in order to harvest and traffic their organs.”
In August 2009 the Swedish tabloid Aftonbladet published Donald Boström's article insinuating that the IDF killed Palestinians to harvest their organs, igniting a Sweden–Israel diplomatic crisis. Boström admitted he had no evidence ('whether it's true or not — I have no idea'), and a Palestinian family he cited denied making the allegation. The story nonetheless mutated: 2010 rumors that IDF earthquake-relief teams were harvesting organs in Haiti, a 2014 TIME item retracted after criticism, and post-October 2023 social-media claims about 'skin banks' and organ theft, including on Houthi television. The narrative inflates a real 1990s scandal at Israel's Abu Kabir forensic institute — tissue taken without consent from Israeli and Palestinian dead alike — into a fabricated program of deliberate killing.
The Protocols of the Elders of Zion
“A secret council of Jewish 'Elders' meets to direct a centuries-old plot to subvert nations and seize control of the entire world.”
The Protocols, the most influential antisemitic forgery in history, first appeared in 1903 in the St. Petersburg newspaper Znamia, owned by the antisemite Pavel Krushevan; a fuller edition was published by Sergei Nilus in 1905. Fabricated in circles linked to the Tsarist secret police (Okhrana), it purports to record secret meetings of Jewish leaders plotting global domination through control of banks, the press, and revolutions. After 1917 it spread worldwide—translated, serialized by Henry Ford's Dearborn Independent, and made a staple of Nazi schooling and propaganda, with at least 23 Nazi-era editions. Norman Cohn called it a 'warrant for genocide': it supplied the master script that rationalized pogroms, Nazi extermination policy, and continues to circulate globally today.
The Reflexive Genocide Accusation
“Israel has been perpetrating a deliberate genocide of the Palestinian people continuously since its founding.”
Decades before any court considered the question, 'genocide' was a fixture of anti-Israel rhetoric: Soviet publications from the late 1960s accused Israel of 'genocidal behavior' alongside the apartheid and Nazi equations (Tabarovsky), and the charge appeared reflexively at demonstrations during every conflict from Lebanon 1982 onward, typically paired with child-killer imagery and Nazi analogies. A parallel far-right French branch ran through Maurice Bardèche's negationist school — not his 1948 'Nuremberg ou la Terre promise', which contains no reference to Palestine, but his disciple François Duprat, whose July 1967 issue of Défense de l'Occident accused the Jews of practicing a 'final solution' against the Arabs; Robert Faurisson's 1980 formula naming 'the Palestinian people' among the victims of the gas-chamber 'lie' completed the denial–genocide fusion (Igounet). In that long-running form it functioned as Holocaust inversion — casting Jews as perpetrators of the crime emblematic of their own victimization. After October 2023, the question entered formal legal process: South Africa brought a case under the Genocide Convention at the ICJ, which issued provisional measures, and genocide scholars genuinely disagree about the Gaza war. This entry concerns the decades-old rhetorical trope, which predates and is independent of that evidence-based debate.
The Slánský Trial
“Rudolf Slánský and thirteen co-defendants — eleven of them Jews, identified in court as 'of Jewish origin' — formed a 'Trotskyite-Titoist-Zionist' conspiracy in the service of American imperialism to subvert communist Czechoslovakia.”
In November 1952, Czechoslovakia's former Communist Party general secretary Rudolf Slánský and thirteen co-defendants were tried in Prague in a Soviet-scripted show trial. Eleven of the fourteen were Jewish, and the indictment made 'Zionism' the organizing category of treason for the first time in a major communist proceeding: defendants were forced to recite memorized confessions of serving 'Zionism, bourgeois nationalism and American imperialism'. Soviet advisers supervised the script; prosecutors stressed defendants' Jewish origin throughout. Eleven were hanged in December 1952; three received life sentences. The trial broadcast to the entire communist world that 'Zionist' now meant 'Jewish traitor', and it marked the Soviet bloc's pivot to treating Israel and world Jewry as an espionage network.
The Western Export of Soviet Anti-Zionism
“Soviet Zionology's demonological portrait of Zionism — racist, Nazi-like, genocidal, controlling Western institutions — was deliberately exported through Western communist parties, front organizations, the New Left, and Arab state media, where it survives as the conspiracist substrate of contemporary anti-Israel discourse.”
The USSR did not keep Zionology at home. Translated Zionological literature, Novosti and TASS wire content, World Peace Council and other front-organization campaigns, and party channels carried the 'Zionism = racism/Nazism/imperialism' package to Western communist parties (notably the CPUSA's pamphlets defending Soviet Jewry policy), to segments of the New Left after 1967, and to Arab state media and PLO training milieus; the Anti-Zionist Committee of the Soviet Public (1983) broadcast it abroad, its chairman boasting on Radio Damascus of international reach. Tabarovsky's 'Demonization Blueprints' traces how these tropes — demonic Zionism, Nazi equivalence, Zionist media-finance control — re-emerge nearly verbatim in contemporary left-wing discourse, usually without awareness of their KGB-era provenance.
The Zionism–Nazism Equation and the 'Zionist–Nazi Collaboration' Myth
“Zionism is equivalent to Nazism, and Zionist leaders secretly collaborated with the Nazis in perpetrating the Holocaust — a Soviet-manufactured inversion that turns the Jews' national movement into the heir of their murderers.”
After the Six-Day War, Soviet propaganda systematically equated Israel with Nazi Germany — cartoons of Israeli leaders with swastikas, 'Israeli stormtroopers', claims that Zionists had financed Hitler and collaborated in the Holocaust to manufacture a Jewish state. Zionological authors (Ivanov, Yevseyev, Korneyev) elaborated the 'collaboration' canard from cherry-picked episodes (the 1933 Haavara transfer agreement, the Kastner affair). Its most consequential codification: Mahmoud Abbas's 1982 dissertation, *The Other Side: The Secret Relationship between Nazism and Zionism*, defended at the Institute of Oriental Studies — the linchpin of Soviet Zionology, run by KGB-linked Arabist Yevgeny Primakov — which also minimized the Holocaust's death toll. The equation is the direct precursor of contemporary Holocaust inversion ('Gaza = Warsaw Ghetto', 'Zionazis'). It also circulated beyond the USSR: Lebourg traces the nazification of Israel through the Eichmann-trial press (1960–61) and Kichko's 1963 book, and shows the French far right recycling the same Soviet theme through Bardèche's journal Défense de l'Occident.
UN Resolution 3379: 'Zionism Is Racism'
“Zionism — the Jewish national movement — is not a form of self-determination but 'a form of racism and racial discrimination', as determined by the UN General Assembly on 10 November 1975.”
On 10 November 1975, the UN General Assembly adopted Resolution 3379 by 72 votes to 35 with 32 abstentions, determining 'that Zionism is a form of racism and racial discrimination'. The resolution was sponsored and driven by the Soviet bloc together with Arab and Islamic states, translating Soviet Zionology's core thesis into international law's most visible forum and linking Zionism to South African apartheid. US Ambassador Daniel Patrick Moynihan declared that 'the United Nations is about to make antisemitism international law' and that the US 'does not acknowledge, it will not abide by, it will never acquiesce in this infamous act'; Israeli Ambassador Chaim Herzog tore the text at the podium. The resolution legitimized the demonization of Israel across UN bodies for sixteen years.
Usury Stereotype (Jewish Greed Myth)
“Jews are innately greedy, money-obsessed usurers who exploit and impoverish non-Jews.”
Medieval Christian Europe barred Jews from land ownership, craft guilds, and most professions, while church law (reaffirmed at the Third Lateran Council, 1179) forbade Christians to lend at interest. Moneylending—dangerous, resented, and heavily taxed by rulers—was one of the few occupations left open to Jews, and princes deliberately exploited Jewish lenders as revenue instruments before periodically cancelling debts, confiscating property, and expelling them (England 1290, France 1306). The forced occupational niche was then inverted into an essential trait: the 'greedy Jew.' Shakespeare's Shylock in The Merchant of Venice (c. 1596–98)—written in an England from which Jews had been expelled for three centuries—crystallized the figure, which fed later myths of Jewish financial domination.
Well-Poisoning Accusation
“Jews deliberately poisoned wells and water sources in a coordinated plot to exterminate Christians, causing the Black Death.”
Accusations that Jews (with lepers) poisoned wells first triggered mass killings in France in 1321. When the Black Death struck Europe in 1348, the charge exploded into the first continent-wide conspiracy theory: tortured Jews in Savoy 'confessed' to an international poisoning plot, and the confessions were circulated by letter between city councils. From Toulon in spring 1348 the massacres spread through Savoy, Switzerland, and the German lands. In Basel and Freiburg (January 1349) and Strasbourg (February 14, 1349) entire communities—up to 2,000 people in Strasbourg, burned before plague had even reached the city—were exterminated. By 1351 some 300 to 1,000 Jewish communities had been destroyed, one of the largest waves of anti-Jewish violence before the Holocaust.
